Amad upgrade: INEOS lodge bid to bring "Europe's best player" to Man Utd

Man Utd could be looking to sign a potential upgrade on Amad this summer

Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen look set to leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire, but there are many more expected to follow them out the exit door. High-profile departures may allow United to enter the market and bring in some high-performing players who fit into Amorim’s system. One player who appears to be a target for United is Barcelona winger Raphinha, as the Red Devils have already made a move to secure his services.

United are said to have tabled a £58 million offer to sign the Brazilian, who has 27 goals in 42 games in all competitions, as Amorim is keen for him to come to Old Trafford. The Premier League side are also in the market for a new centre-forward, and it’s been reported that United have made contact over a deal to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys look set to return to the Championship, and United, along with Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Chelsea, are interested in signing Delap. But despite their relegation, Ipswich are looking to get £50 million for their striker, which could potentially be an issue for the Red Devils.

£50m+ Man Utd ace open to leaving Old Trafford

For the Red Devils to sign someone like Delap, they may have to let a current forward leave, and according to reports in Italy, relayed by Man Utd News, Napoli have placed Man United’s Rasmus Hojlund at the top of their transfer list ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report states that the Italian side, managed by Antonio Conte, want to sign a striker in the summer, and Hojlund is one of the names they have under consideration. It goes on to add that the Denmark international would “gladly” return to Italy after he played for Atalanta before joining United.

Man United signed Hojlund for £63 million back in 2023, and if he were to leave in the summer, they would look to get £51 million for the striker, as that would allow them to avoid a loss in their financial books. However, that price could be a problem for Napoli, but despite that, they have held “first exploratory talks”, as they consider Hojlund as someone who could compete with current striker Romelu Lukaku at the top end of the pitch.

It’s safe to say that the 22-year-old has really struggled at Old Trafford this season, scoring just three goals in 24 Premier League games, his latest coming in the 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Hojlund has performed better in the Europa League in this campaign, but it may still not enough for Amorim to be fully convinced he is the forward to lead the team. He is under contract until 2028, but his sale could be considered by everyone at United, as it may allow them to bring in a striker Amorim believes will suit his team and system better.

Sky Sports: Man Utd now plotting move to sign £67m star alongside striker

Manchester United and INEOS are now plotting a move to sign a “versatile” £67 million star alongside a new striker, according to Sky Sports.

Man Utd add new striker to transfer radar

It has become quite clear to Ruben Amorim that signing a new striker during the summer transfer window should be a top priority given the lack of goals in the team throughout this campaign.

Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been tasked with leading the United line this season, but the pair have struggled to make a regular impact in terms of goals on a consistent basis. In fact, Hojlund’s struggles have meant he is now being linked with a move to Napoli.

The Italian side are said to be keen on landing the Denmark international, as Antonio Conte sees him as someone who can compete alongside current striker Romelu Lukaku.

So as Hojlund is linked with a move away from Old Trafford, United have now added Mainz striker Jonathan Burkardt to their transfer wishlist.

Burkardt is the latest striker to be added to their list after impressing club scouts in the 3-4-3 system that the German side like to play, which is identical to how Amorim sets up his United team.

Man Utd plotting move to sign £67m Bundesliga star

While the Red Devils continue their search for a new number nine, according to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man United are also weighing up a move to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig alongside a striker.

Plettenberg states that United have now moved away from holding an interest in signing Simons, as they are looking to sign a “versatile” attacking midfielder as well as a new striker. However, he states the issue for the Red Devils could be the cost, as Simons is considered very expensive.

The German side are looking to get around €80 million for the Netherlands international, which is roughly £67 million. Despite the hefty price tag, it is possible that Simons will leave Leipzig in the summer.

Despite Leipzig’s struggles in the Bundesliga and the Champions League, it has been another impressive campaign on a personal level for Simons. The midfielder has netted seven goals in 18 league games, as well as grabbing four assists along the way.

The Dutchman, who has 24 caps to his name, is under contract until June 2027, so Leipzig still have time left to decide on his future, but given the team’s struggles this campaign, Simons may be looking for a new challenge in the summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

England were drab in their 1-0 victory over Andorra last week, with Kane scoring the only goal of the game. He was on the scoresheet again on Tuesday night but the Three Lions were largely outclassed as Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly all struck the back of the net. That didn't stop the England captain from bemoaning the decision to disallow Bellingham's strike, however.

  • WHAT KANE SAID

Kane told : "If you know the rules it's not handball. That gets us back in the game and maybe we can go on and win the game, so it's a big moment. It's something we will discuss later.

"Not good enough. We had moments, but with and without the ball things aren't clicking, we're not finding the right tempo. We've lost that aggressive nature that we had.

"We're not going to panic but we know we need to be better. New ideas, there's new players coming into the team that don't have experience at international level. It's a mixture of things but no excuses. We need to find it quick, the World Cup is going to come around really fast so every camp is really important right now."

Mandhana's stardust brings Women's Hundred to life as Brave beat Rockets

The men’s Hundred is short on overseas superstars after Rashid Khan’s 11th-hour withdrawal but Smriti Mandhana’s stylish 55 ensured the women’s competition launched with a sprinkle of stardust at Trent Bridge.Mandhana’s innings underpinned Southern Brave’s 157, the highest total in the women’s Hundred at this ground and one that proved a long way out of reach. Trent Rockets were late off the launchpad, despite the best efforts of Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Brave saw out a 27-run victory.Sciver-Brunt gave Brave a brief scare, crashing 18 runs off five balls from Maitlan Brown to reach 44 off 27 balls. She hit another boundary off Anya Shrubsole to leave 57 required off 24, but chipped a return catch to fall for 49 and end the game as a contest.Salaries in the women’s Hundred were frozen after the 2022 season but the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) in India has transformed the landscape of short-form leagues. Mandhana was retained on a top-bracket £ 31,250 contract by Brave – a wage that is not even one-tenth of the INR 3.4 crore she was paid by Royal Challengers Bangalore.Related

The women’s game has not yet reached the point of saturation that has left the men’s Hundred struggling for relevance. There are only three top-tier leagues around the world – the WPL, the Hundred and the WBBL – with a handful more operating at a level below. Some of Australia’s top players have skipped the Hundred this year due to heavy workloads, injuries or both. But as a whole, the standard of overseas players in the women’s competition is high – a sense that is only underlined by Mandhana’s presence. “Along with the WPL, this is probably still up there with one of the best competitions in the world,” said Kirstie Gordon, who bowled tightly for Rockets.Fresh from India’s tour to Bangladesh, with only one nets session since arriving, Mandhana dovetailed with both Danni Wyatt and Maia Bouchier in making 55 off 36 balls. Brave raced to 45 for 0 in their 25-ball powerplay as Rockets’ seamers started waywardly, struggling to adapt to the left-right opening combination.”Initially, I didn’t know two or three bowlers,” Mandhana said. “I had just watched their videos, so it was important for me to see them and how the wicket was playing, because I’ve just come off a tour from Bangladesh and the conditions were pretty different.”Brave opted not to retain Sophia Dunkley over the off-season, instead backing their complementary opening pair. “Those two at the top, Smriti and Danni, have been exceptional for us,” Shrubsole told Sky Sports. “They were the two we really wanted to retain because they get us off to such good starts: right and left-handers, they can play completely differently and hit the ball in different areas.”Danni Wyatt and Smriti Mandhana resumed their opening partnership•ECB/Getty Images

Wyatt chipped Bryony Smith into the off side where Sciver-Brunt took a sharp catch running back from extra cover, but Bouchier – unused by England in their Ashes campaign – came out swinging, hitting 31 off 18 balls with four fours and a slog-swept six.Mandhana pounced on Rockets’ spinners through the middle phase, skipping down the pitch and lofting Smith’s offbreak back over her head for a straight six, and when she brought up a 32-ball half-century, Brave looked on course to break their own record total in the women’s Hundred of 166.Brave stumbled towards the back end, losing five wickets for 29 runs off the last 22 balls, but Chloe Tryon’s 10-ball 23 from No. 5 ensured they posted a competitive score.Rockets’ reply started with a run-out, Smith stitched up by Lizelle Lee as Shrubsole’s leg-side wide diverted down to Kalea Moore at short fine leg, and despite the presence of Sciver-Brunt and Harmnpreet Kaur in the middle order, 158 always looked a tall order. This was Brave’s 13th win in 15 group games across the competition’s nascent history. The ECB hope that the tournament will prove to have more competitive balance this season, having introduced a draft earlier this year in an attempt to close the gap between the best and worst teams.Brave’s team looks lighter on paper than in previous years: the England seamer Lauren Bell is missing for the first two games, resting after an exhausting Ashes, and the Australian legspinner Amanda-Jade Wellington was drafted by Manchester Originals after two prolific seasons at the Ageas Bowl. But the south coast remains a hotbed of young, homegrown talent – as 18-year-old Mary Taylor proved in removing both Lee and Naomi Dattani early in the run chase. She returned to have Jo Gardner caught at the death, finishing with 3 for 18 on Hundred debut and putting the finishing touches on Brave’s victory.Taylor, a standby for England’s Under-19 World Cup squad earlier this year, said that Brave coach Charlotte Edwards had kept her advice as simple as possible. “She said, ‘Just bowl straight.’ I just wanted to hit the stumps. It felt so surreal. I’m so excited to be here – absolutely buzzing.”

After Trent: Liverpool ready to accept bid for £150k-p/w ace after contact

Liverpool are ready to accept an offer for a £150,000-a-week player who could leave Anfield this summer with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold set to sign for Real Madrid

It looks set to be an active few months for the Reds in the transfer market, despite Arne Slot’s side being on course to win the Premier League.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher wants to see up to six players brought in ahead of the 2025/26 season, with a replacement for Alexander-Arnold on the to-do list.

Sky Sports: Arne Slot holds talks to sign £40m+ "monster" for Liverpool

He’s a top priority for the Dutchman.

ByCharlie Smith Mar 25, 2025

“I’m excited to see where Arne Slot will take Liverpool because it looks like they’re going to win the league, but there are still so many areas to improve. He needs a centre-back as back-up to the two that we have, he’ll need a right-back with Trent Alexander-Arnold likely to leave.

“I think he needs a centre midfielder to replace Endo, someone younger and that he trusts, a centre-forward to play and a left-winger. There are at least five or six players he needs to get in – three to go straight in the team and three to be strong back-ups.”

The English full-back has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu, with reports claiming a transfer is 99% done after terms were agreed.

Expert Fabrizio Romano has said that all parties are confident a deal will be done after Alexander-Arnold’s Anfield deal expires in the summer.

Jeremie Frimpong has been earmarked as a replacement for Alexander-Arnold and reports have claimed that Slot has held talks with Frimpong’s reps over a move to Liverpool.

However, Alexander-Arnold may not be the only player to depart the club. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also out of contract at the end of the campaign, whereas Federico Chiesa has also been linked with a Liverpool exit.

Liverpool ready to loan out Chiesa as Lazio make contact

As per reports in Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, Liverpool are ready to send Chiesa out on loan for the 2025/26 season and are willing to include an option to buy of €15m.

Federico Chiesa in action for Liverpool

This comes after Lazio made initial contact over a transfer, though Chiesa’s salary of £150,000-a-week appears to be too expensive for the Serie A side. Indeed, his wages are even high at Anfield, taking home more than regular starters Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate combined.

It does look as if the Reds are ready to move the Italian on over the coming months, with the 27-year-old not exactly starring at Anfield after joining last summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea's latest Premier League win came at the end of the 2016-17 season, when they collected 93 points under Antonio Conte. Since then, the Blues have missed out on Champions League football thrice, even hitting the embarrassing low of finishing 12th in the 2022-23 season. This season, they finished fourth under Maresca.

  • WHAT JOHN TERRY SAID

“I get frustrated because I want Chelsea to be winning the biggest trophies. Are we close? I think we are still a few years away from competing for the Premier League again," Terry acknowledged in an interview with the Mirror.

"We need to catch Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool to even have a chance of doing that. I think we need experience. I think it’s through winning. If we’re competing for a top striker, a top keeper, I know where I’d be going.

“Fans need to understand that to sign top players and improve your group then you have to attract the best players then you have to win and compete for the biggest trophies. That’s the Champions League, the Premier League and we’re not doing that at the minute. We probably have to say: ‘we’ll take the second best striker, the third best striker, whatever that looks like.’ That’s where we are.

“That’s probably why we’ve gone down the younger route at the minute and we haven’t got players of the calibre of Didier, Hazard and these guys wanting to come to Chelsea because we are the best and we are guaranteed to win a trophy.”

Real Madrid now expected to make huge bid for "incredible" £60m+ Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur could now be willing to sell an “incredible” player this summer, with Real Madrid expected to make a substantial offer if he becomes available, according to a report.

Tottenham planning defensive rebuild

Tottenham signed Lens’ Kevin Danso during the January transfer window amid the severe injury crisis in N17 which left Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and a number of other defenders on the sidelines.

However, Ange Postecoglou clearly feels more depth is needed in defence, as Spurs remain interested in new additions, including AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen at centre-back, with a bid for the 19-year-old currently being prepared.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri has also emerged as a target in the full-back area, with the Lilywhites now expected to make a £30m offer for the Algerian, as Postecoglou remains keen on bolstering his options at the back.

The need to bring in new defenders may also be exacerbated by a potential departure in the summer, with a report from GiveMeSport revealing Tottenham are now willing to cash in on Romero should the centre-back be unwilling to sign a new deal.

If the defender has not expressed a willingness to put pen to paper by the time the summer transfer window comes around, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will look to complete a sale, and one of Europe’s biggest clubs could be waiting in the wings.

Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero and teammates look dejected after AZ Alkmaar's Peer Koopmeiners scores their first goal

There is now an expectation that Real Madrid will submit a substantial offer for the Argentinian, should he become available, and the Spanish side have been given renewed hope a deal will be possible, given the north Londoners’ struggles this season.

"Incredible" Romero would be a huge loss

It is clear Tottenham do not want to sell the 26-year-old in an ideal world, but if they feel as though they are forced to cash in this summer, he could be a huge loss given how important a player the former Atalanta man has become.

The current season has been marred by injuries, but the £165,000-per-week defender has chalked up 115 appearances since arriving from Atalanta, during which time he has received high praise for his performances.

While this season has been far from ideal for Tottenham and Romero, the Argentina international managed to showcase his defensive ability early in the campaign, prior to his injury issues.

That said, if Romero is unwilling to sign a new contract, Spurs have very little choice other than cashing in for a good fee, and at least selling him to Real Madrid would avoid strengthening any of their Premier League rivals.
