Leeds: Journalist provides damaging Nahitan Nandez update

Leeds United target Nahitan Nandez now looks all set to join Inter Milan on loan this summer, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Leeds keen on signing Nandez

The Whites will be hoping to improve on their ninth-place finish in the Premier League next season, possibly even pushing for Europe this time around.

Some top players may need to arrive for that to happen, however, and Nandez is one individual who has been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road.

The Cagliari midfielder is seen as someone who can bolster Marcelo Bielsa’s options in the middle of the park with high level experience, having won 41 caps for Uruguay to date.

The Latest: Romano delivers fatal blow

Unfortunately, Romano seems to have put paid to Leeds’ hopes of signing the 25-year-old, taking to Twitter to confirm that a loan move to Serie A champions Inter is on the cards:

“Inter have opened talks with Cagliari to sign Nahitan Nandez on loan.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-9/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Shame to miss out

Nandez is a ferocious midfielder who averaged 1.8 tackles per game in the league last season, as well as enjoying four goal contributions (two goals and assists apiece).

It is a blow for Leeds to miss out on such a key summer target and Bielsa will now need to look elsewhere for an alternative.

While the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas are undisputed key starters, Leeds could do with more depth in midfield, in order for the squad to remain fresh as the season goes on – of the nine top flight matches Phillips missed last term, the Whites lost seven of them.

Journalist provides key Neuhaus update

Liverpool will make a ‘concrete offer’ for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer, according to journalist Florian Plettenburg.

The Lowdown: Neuhaus links continue

The Reds could be expected to make more signings in the coming months after their difficult campaign, with centre-back Ibrahima Konate already arriving from RB Leipzig.

One player who has been continually linked with a move to Liverpool is Neuhaus, who is currently on Euro 2020 with Germany.

The 24-year-old featured in 33 of Monchengladbach’s 38 Bundesliga matches last season, proving to be a key man in the middle of the park.

The Latest: Journalist provides update

Plettenburg, journalist and podcaster for SPORT1, has now given a fresh update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Neuhaus, taking to Twitter to say:

“Update #Neuhaus (due to many inquiries): #LFC is definitely a highly interesting option for the player. A concrete offer for him is expected. It’s also up to Klopp. However, a decision on his future will be made after the Euros.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/the-latest-liverpool-transfer-news-copy-2/” title=”The latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Wijnaldum’s replacement?

With Gini Wijnaldum leaving Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain, a huge void is going to left in the Reds’ midfield, given the Dutchman’s influence there.

It could be that the £31.5million-rated Neuhaus is the man to solve that issue, thriving in a similar manner to Wijnaldum, even if they aren’t too similar, in terms of playing style.

The German averaged three tackles per game in the Champions League in 2020/21, showing how effective he can be off the ball, but also chipped in with six goals and five assists in the league – end product was something Wijnaldum largely lacked, managing just two league goals and zero assists last term.

Neuhaus would, therefore, bring both attacking guile and defensive work-rate to Liverpool’s team, making up for the loss of Wijnaldum in the process.

Crystal Palace: Fans react to club’s Jean-Phillipe Mateta tweet

Many Crystal Palace fans have been angered after the Eagles’ official Twitter account posted Jean-Phillipe Mateta’s backheel against Brighton in their 2-1 win back in February as their Goal of the Day to mark his 24th birthday on Monday.

The Frenchman made just seven appearances for Palace after joining on an 18-month loan deal in January from Mainz [cpfc.co.uk], with that being the only goal he has scored for the club thus far.

Interestingly, he will become a permanent Crystal Palace player should he complete 15 Premier League starts by the end of 2021/22 [Sky Sports].

Despite converting the famous flick away to their south coast rivals four months ago, he has not been given many opportunities to have a sustained impact in south London.

Upon looking back at the goal, loads of Crystal Palace fans took to social media to voice their opinions, with many objecting to his sparsity of appearances following that magic moment.

Crystal Palace fans react:

Replying to the club’s official Twitter account, here is how some Eagles supporters summarised their feelings on the clip of Mateta’s goal at the Amex Stadium:

Leeds dealt blow in Perraud transfer race

Leeds United have been a dealt a blow in their quest to sign Romain Perraud this summer, with Southampton the clear front-runners to sign him.

The Lowdown: Leeds keen on Perraud

The Whites will likely be looking for a new left-back in the coming weeks, with Ezgjan Alioski expected to move on to pastures new.

Leeds have been linked with a host of players in that position, but Brest defender Perraud has arguably been mentioned the most.

[freshpress-quiz id=“355458″]

The Latest: Southampton lead the race

According to L’Equipe [via Sport Witness], Southampton are the current front-runners to sign the Frenchman, with the report stating that he is ‘closer’ to joining them compared to Leeds and Newcastle.

It is also claimed that the Saints and Brest have a ‘good relationship’ stemming from previous transfer dealings, further suggesting that Perraud could be on his way to the south coast this summer rather than Yorkshire.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-copy/” title=”Latest Leeds United news! (Copy)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Left-back search continues

This is a blow for Leeds, considering Perraud scored three goals and registered seven assists in Ligue 1 last season, highlighting his attacking class.

Phil Hay has also sung his praises in a profile piece for The Athletic, writing: “Perraud, 23, played for France up to under-20s level and his performance data shows characteristics which would meet Bielsa requirements: a creative edge and a high number of dribbles and shots for a player at his position, combined with a very active role in pressing defensively.”

It means that Marcelo Bielsa may have to look at other options, with Nicolas Tagliafico an experienced left-back at Ajax and Huesca’s Javi Galan a younger, more explosive choice, averaging 3.3 dribbles per game in La Liga in 2020/21.

This is all assuming that Alioski moves on, but should the North Macedonian stay put, the need for reinforcements wouldn’t be as pressing.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa should sign Batshuayi

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa should reunite with Chelsea and Belgium star Michy Batshuayi this summer amid some recent transfer claims.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from The Telegraph, Bielsa is keen on luring Batshuayi to Elland Road this summer, with the Belgium international spending last season on loan at fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace.

And now, speaking exclusively to This is Futbol, Carlton Palmer has dropped his verdict on the Whites pursuing a move for a player Bielsa has worked with before at French side Marseille.

He said: “Well he knows him, doesn’t he? Managers generally like to work with players they know, players like to go work for managers they know because they get the best out of them.

“Listen, Bielsa will be looking at that and thinking if he can get him in, it’d be a decent addition to the squad because that’s what you need. I think Bielsa will be interested. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Bielsa could transform him

Lauded as a “real goal-scorer” by former Borussia Dortmund boss, Peter Stoger, the £9m-rated Batshuayi has had the experience of working under Bielsa while at Marseille, and though he has since admitted it was a tough period for him, it’s something he claims has been invaluable to his development.

He said: “But looking back, I tell myself he knew who to do this with. Some needed this support. Me, he understood my personality, he knew that I could draw on my resources.

“I’ll tell you something. One day he told me something shocking. For several months, he hardly spoke to me. And the time he came to talk to me, he just said, ‘When you go out of here, you’re gonna go for 40 million’. He just told me that. In my head, I said to myself, ‘But he’s crazy’. In the end, he was right.”

And, after hearing about the links to Batshuayi, David Norris also pointed to Batshuayi’s previous relationship with the Leeds boss as something that makes it a really good move for Leeds.

He said: “If they had a good relationship before and then he moved on because it was for a better move, then managers and players normally have a good relationship.

“He is proven but he just hasn’t played enough games at Chelsea. He’d be coming from a big club who have got a lot of money and are doing things so, I think on paper that’s a good signing.”

Given that the “powerful” Batshuayi enjoyed some of his best form in football under Bielsa – he scored ten goals in 29 games for the Argentine – the Leeds boss would feel confident of transforming his career once again, and helping him realise the kind of quality that eventually earned him a move to Chelsea in the first place.

Tottenham handed fresh Pochettino boost

Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a huge boost in their bid to bring their former manager Mauricio Pochettino back to the club this week…

What’s the word?

According to Duncan Castles, the Argentine is not Real Madrid’s top target to replace Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu, which means that Spurs have one less problem to worry about if they are to secure his sensational return to north London.

Speaking on a recent episode of ‘The Transfer Window’ podcast, the Sunday Times journalist revealed: “It’s not clear to me – from what I’m hearing from Madrid – that he’s the preferred candidate to take that job for them any longer.

“They watched what happened towards the end [of his spell] at Tottenham and what’s happened in Paris, and we all know that it’s easy for a coach’s status on the market, in the space of one job and one season of performance in a job, and I think that’s where Pochettino is at the moment.”

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke first revealed Spurs’ interest in Pochettino on Thursday, claiming that chairman Daniel Levy had held talks with the Paris Saint-Germain boss and that the 49-year-old was even open to returning to Spurs.

However, doubts quickly arose after the La Liga club were mooted with the Lilywhites’ fan favourite by Goal, who claimed that he was their first-choice option.

Pochettino has previously suggested that it would be a “dream” to manage Los Galacticos one day, so their interest will always cause some considerable concern among the N17 faithful.

A big boost?

This fresh claim should certainly come as rather exciting news for supporters, as many have struggled to contain their desperation to see their former coach return to the club as Jose Mourinho’s successor.

As revealed by This is Futbol, several members of the Lilywhites faithful have displayed their excitement over the news that Pochettino could come back to the club. One fan likened it to “Christmas Eve”, another dubbed it a “madness” and a further supporter claimed to be “salivating uncontrollably”.

Now that Real Madrid do not appear to be in the running, this will only bolster the Spurs fans’ hopes and dreams even more, as it’s one obstacle which is no longer blocking a return from happening. Instead, it will now be on Levy to do whatever he can to secure the former Southampton man’s services.

Pochettino is currently under contract at the Parc des Princes until the summer of 2022, with an option of a further year, and it’s thought that the Ligue 1 giants have no intention of letting him go.

That is perhaps the biggest hurdle standing in Tottenham’s way, although it should come as pleasing news to many that they do not have to battle Champions League-bound Real Madrid as well.

As a result, Castles’ latest update is an exciting development in Spurs’ quest to fill their vacant managerial role. The door has opened for Levy to strike but can he do it? Only time will tell.

Anderson injury blow for NUFC v Leicester

Steve Bruce has dropped an injury blow before Newcastle United travel to Leicester City in the Premier League.

The Lowdown: Newcastle are virtually safe

The St. James’ Park faithful are virtually safe from dropping down from the top flight down to the EFL Championship.

They currently sit nine points above the relegation zone with just four games left to play (Sky Sports), and so while it is not mathematically impossible that they could still go down, it would take a huge ask from both Fulham and West Brom.

With this in mind, it may be an opportunity for Bruce to give some minutes to some of his fringe players or bed some youngsters in, but he will not have Elliot Anderson available for the visit to the Foxes.

The Latest: Anderson injured for Newcastle

Speaking in his pre-game press conference before the match against Brendan Rodgers’ men, Bruce confirmed with regards to Anderson (via The Chronicle):

“He picked up a knock in the last game he played and it’s set him back a little bit.

“We’re not sure how bad it is but it’s a hip problem.

“He’s going to be struggling for the next couple of weeks.”

This rules him out of the match against LCFC and potentially also their next two fixtures against both Manchester City and Sheffield United respectively, seemingly ruining his chances of a late chance to strut his stuff before the summer.

The Verdict: Anderson injury a big blow

Anderson is a promising talent, having already made his breakthrough in the team this season at the tender age of just 18, and with potentially nothing to play for, these next matches could have allowed him to get a run in the side.

Nonetheless, the midfield player will have to try and work his way back to full fitness so that he can hopefully make another appearance before the campaign finishes, otherwise it will be over to the pre-season period for him to show Bruce he has what it takes.

Pundit claims Parker would love Spurs job

Scott Parker has suffered relegation both times he has managed Fulham in the Premier League but Marcus Bent, who played for 12 different clubs during his career, has exclusively told Football FanCast, that Parker would love to be offered the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Daniel Levy is still on the hunt for Spurs’ next manager and the likes of Parker and Graham Potter have been linked with getting the job despite having never finished in the top half of the Premier League as a manager.

Parker was handed the Fulham job last time they were in the Premier League as relegation loomed large but he did manage to get them up at the first time of asking last season as Fulham won the play-off final against Brentford.

Levy, who is said to “think the world” of Parker, will know he needs to get this manager right and Bent, who spoke exclusively to FFC, has claimed the Cottagers boss would love the job but that he may not be ready for it:

“I’m not sure if Scott Parker is ready for it, but who am I to say? He’s done really well at Fulham and I think he’d jump at the chance. I haven’t spokn to him about it but I think he would jump at the chance.

“There’s something going on at the club and it has been for years because it’s not stable. There’s going to be quite a few players going this summer and they’re talking about if Kane will stay? It just depends on if they’re going to bring in the right players and manager.”

Ryan Mason has been tasked with getting Tottenham into Europe after taking over from Jose Mourinho and the former Spurs midfielder has won two of his three leagues games as manager.

Spurs fans appear to have had enough of how their club is being run and are planning protests, much like all the teams involved in the failed Super League, and they will be happening on the final home game of the season.

Leeds: Raphinha tipped to leave next year

Leeds United winger Raphinha will likely spend one more year at Elland Road and leave next summer, according to journalist Tom McDermott.

The Lowdown: Key man for Leeds

The Brazilian was a star performer for the Whites last season, catching the eye as soon as he arrived from Rennes, assisting nine times in the Premier League.

Raphinha was hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Leeds United Fan Hub’s Ben Parker and others clearly agree – his performances have caught the eye of some huge clubs.

Liverpool have been constantly linked with a move for the 24-year-old in recent weeks and another key update has now been provided.

[freshpress-quiz id=“355458″]

The Latest: Raphinha tipped for 2022 exit

Writing on Twitter, McDermott claimed that Raphinha ‘would do one more year’ at Leeds, before moving on to pastures new in 2022.

Liverpool are again mentioned as being the ‘most interested’, with the Reds more likely to go for him if either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane leave.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-4/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Inevitable blow

Raphinha is vital to Leeds’ success moving forward, with the South American one of the most exciting wide players in the league last season.

In truth, there comes a point when it is extremely difficult to keep hold of such special talents, however, and getting one more year out of him could be the best Marcelo Bielsa can hope for.

The only positive is that if he improves even further this season, then Leeds would be able to receive a huge fee for his services, allowing them to strengthen their squad across several areas in the process.

Howey claims Zaha’s attitude holds him back

In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, Steve Howey, who made 271 appearances during his career, has claimed that Wilfried Zaha’s attitude on the pitch is what’s holding him back from a move to a bigger club.

Zaha did get his move to a big club when he was signed for Manchester United in 2013 by Sir Alex Ferguson, however he failed to make an impact at Old Trafford when David Moyes was appointed and eventually returned back to Crystal Palace in 2015.

The Ivory Coast international has once again been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park with Arsenal holding a strong long term interest in the 28-year old, who has two years left on his current contract.

Speaking on how Zaha keeps getting linked with big clubs and why his attitude on the pitch may be holding him back, Howey told The Transfer Tavern:

“He’s been linked with everybody and obviously he got his move to Man United which didn’t work out but now, as a player, he can be devastating on his day.

“Sometimes I don’t get a great vibe from him attitude-wise and I just think at times you look at him and I’m not 100% convinced. I think that’s what probably puts some clubs off him because he’s either breathtaking or non-existent.”

Roy Hodgson has given Zaha a lot more freedom to express himself this season having deployed the traditional winger as Palace’s main focal point through the middle.

This decision has resulted in Zaha having his second-best season in front of goal for Palace having scored nine goals and registered two assists in 23 league games.
