Given that it’s his first season at Premier League level, there’s no questioning Illan Meslier is proving himself to be a real bargain for Leeds United.

Reports have suggested that the Yorkshire club paid just £5m to sign him on a long-term deal – virtually nothing when you think of the huge amounts of money that gets thrown about in the modern market.

And, speaking on The Inside Elland Road Podcast, The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth said: “He’s been great, hasn’t he? For a 20-year-old, for £5m, I mean Victor Orta – it feels almost illegal what he’s done getting a player of that quality at that age for £5m, remarkable business.”

With a total of nine clean sheets to his name in the top-flight, Meslier currently ranks joint-sixth among all goalkeepers in the Premier League, and that despite playing for a side who have come to be known for their attacking style of play.

The young Frenchman’s ability with his feet has always been one of his standout attributes, with former Whites striker Jermaine Beckford raving: “The kid is incredible. I was watching the game (against Everton) and there were a couple of moments, (Dominic) Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and James (Rodriguez) had chances, but Meslier stood in their way. His distribution is one of the best in the Premier League.”

Meslier’s willingness to come for crosses and take the pressure of his defenders has also been raved about by former England goalkeeper David James, who said earlier this calendar year: “Meslier – I love him. I went on social media, I was watching a game and he went for about 10 crosses (v Burnley), he carried on coming for crosses.

“The commentators were battering him. I was thinking ‘the guy is still coming’, and as soon as the whistle went, the camera was panning but you could see all the defenders going up to him. That is quality.”

His performances in the Premier League have now seen his value shoot up, with CIES now rating him at a mammoth £26m.

And, with reports in recent weeks and months suggesting that Meslier’s performances have attracted transfer interest from Premier League side West Ham, Leeds surely stand to make a massive profit on the French starlet if they ever did decide to cash in.

That kind of buy low, sell high margin will be music to the ears of Andrea Radrizzani, who will know that his club are in the driving seat to demand a big fee from the Hammers if the London club firm up their interest this summer with an official bid.

Make no mistake about it, Victor Orta delivered a masterclass by landing Meslier so cheaply.

تحدث بريندان رودجرز المدير الفني لفريق ليستر سيتي عن مستقبل اللاعب يوري تيليمانس، بعد اهتمام نادي آرسنال بالحصول على خدماته.

وكانت تقارير صحفية قد ظهرت في وقت سابق من هذا الأسبوع وذكرت أن آرسنال أجرى بالفعل محادثات مع ممثلي لاعب خط الوسط البلجيكي.

وسيتبقى أمام تيليمانس، الذي ارتبط أيضًا بكل من مانشستر يونايتد وليفربول، عام واحد فقط على نهاية عقده الحالي ولم يتوصل بعد إلى اتفاق مع ليستر سيتي.

وأكد رودجرز أنه حريص على تمديد فترة بقاء تيليمانس مع الثعالب، ولكنه أقر بأن لاعب خط الوسط يحتاج إلى النظر في كل خيار.

وقال رودجرز في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “مترو” الإنجليزية: “عليك دائمًا أن تتطلع إلى الأمام، عليك دائمًا التخطيط للحياة بدون لاعبين، هذا هو المفتاح، هذا أمر مهم”.

وواصل: “أتمنى أن يظل هنا في ليستر سيتي، هذا أمر طبيعي، ولكنني أتفهم أنها مسيرة قصيرة للغاية، بمجرد أن يكون اللاعب ملتزمًا ومركزًا ومهنيًا، فلا داعِ للقلق أبدًا”.

وأوضح: “يمكنك أن ترى فرحته بالتواجد هنا، إنه يحب التواجد هنا وعليك أن تحترم مهن هؤلاء الرجال قصيرة”.

واختتم: “إذا كنا سنفتقد لاعبًا، فعلينا أن نكون مستعدين لمجئ آخر”.

Former Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood has given his old club the thumbs up regarding a permanent deal for Ross Barkley in an exclusive interview with Football FanCast.

Barkley is currently at Villa Park on loan from Chelsea and made an instant impression at the start of the season. The 27-year-old scored on his debut, the incredible 7-2 win against Premier League champions Liverpool, and followed that up with a winner away at Leicester City shortly after.

However, his form has since dipped following a hamstring injury, resulting in manager Dean Smith leaving him on the bench in Villa’s last few fixtures.

Harewood, though, still likes the idea of his former club signing Barkley permanently at the end of his loan deal, believing it would be a good move for the Chelsea midfielder, too. Speaking exclusively to FFC about Barkley, who is said to be on £96,000-a-week, the retired forward said:

“I think he’s been a great player for them at the beginning of the season, showing what he can do. So it’s just obviously trying to get him back to his fitness and getting back to where he should be and what he wants to be. Obviously, I’m assuming he wants to be in England, so himself, he’s got something to prove. So I don’t think the club will have to do a lot to try and get him back.

“Him and [Jack] Grealish complement each other when they’re on the scene and Villa have been doing so well this year, so I think he will want to stay there because the set-up there is just unbelievable and fantastic and the way they’ve looked after him. And they’ve given him a chance, so I think he’ll want to repay them with playing week in, week out.”

From Barkley’s perspective, a permanent transfer to Villa looks to be in his best interest. At Chelsea, there appears to be no way back.

In the attacking positions, new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has been utilising the likes of Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech. Meanwhile, further back, the German looks to be glued to a Jorginho-Mateo Kovacic midfield pairing, with N’Golo Kante rotating in.

No fim de janeiro, o Rubro-Negro entrou com um processo contra a emissora no Tribunal de Justiça do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ), discutindo o acordo que regula os direitos de transmissão e exibição dos jogos do clube no Campeonato Brasileiro, até 2024. Mas o atrito não foi de agora. Começou no dia 22 de agosto de 2019, quando o clube enviou para a emissora uma “Notificação de Descumprimentos e Solicitação de Esclarecimentos relativos à Proposta de Cessão dos Direitos de Transmissão do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol – Série A, Temporadas de 2019 a 2024”. O L! teve acesso às notificações anteriores a busca judicial e destrincha agora nesta primeira parte do especial.

No momento da notificação extrajudicial a Globo, o Flamengo cobrava R$ 5.886.490,59. No primeiro documento do Flamengo para a Globo, o clube afirmou que estão válidos o acordo da proposta pelo Campeonato Brasileiro assinado em 2016, vigente entre 2019 e 2024, complementado pelos acordos dos direitos de transmissão assinados em 2011, vigentes entre 2012 e 2018, para as plataformas existentes. A primeira cobrança é pelo item 1.3 da proposta (Pagamento Mensal da Participação por Exposição). Pelo item, o pagamento se daria em um fluxo mensal, e o clube, na época, afirmou que “passados quatro meses do início da temporada 2019 do campeonato”, a Globo não realizou o pagamento ao Rubro-Negro.

O Flamengo citou relatório de exposição apresentado pela Globo no dia 20 de agosto. Segundo o documento, o pelos meses de maio, junho e julho de 2019, o Flamengo fez jus ao recebimento do valor de R$ 4.055.362,00 pela “Participação por Exposição”. O clube disse que o valor foi apurado de forma unilateral pela emissora, “ficando reservado ao clube o direito de auditar ou rever o número, caso sejam identificadas inconsistências no cálculo do mesmo”.

O Flamengo seguiu dizendo que “de acordo com os números apresentados” pela Globo “no último relatório de exposição, a média mensal da Participação por Exposição do clube é de R$ 788.543,00, considerando os 12 meses do ano-calendário em que o campeonato se realizar”, apurado pelo seguinte cálculo: “o valor de R$ 4.055.362,00 dividido pelos três meses a que se refere (maio, junho e julho)”, multiplicando por sete este resultado, “de forma a refletir o número de meses entre maio e novembro do respectivo ano-calendário”, e este último resultado dividido por doze, “de forma a refletir a média mensal ao longo do ano-calendário”.

Ao finalizar este primeiro item, o Flamengo cobrou da Globo o pagamento de R$ 2.252.979,00, pela média mensal de Participação por Exposição do clube entre janeiro e abril de 2019, dando cinco dias para a emissora pagar, e mais R$ 788.543,00 mensalmente, nos dias 31 de setembro de 2019 e último útil dos meses subsequentes até o final da edição do Brasileirão. Logo após, o Flamengo começou o segundo item da notificação “Aparente Inclusão de Transmissão de Terceiros no Cálculo da Participação por Exposição” do clube – item 1.2 da proposta.

O Flamengo argumentou que “na planilha que constitui o Relatório de Exposição, foi identificada a inserção de jogos transmitidos por terceiros para definição do número total de transmissões, que é o divisor na fórmula de cálculo do fator de exposição, de acordo com o item 1.2 (iii) da proposta”. O Rubro-Negro afirmou que “não irá aceitar a inclusão de fatores estranhos às partes e/ou definidos de acordo com contratos entre terceiros para apuração da remuneração do clube no contrato com as Organizações Globo”. O clube seguiu dizendo que “se há clubes que aceitaram esta previsão expressamente em seus contratos, isso não modifica o item 1.2 da proposta, que nada prevê a esse respeito e deve ser interpretado nos limites do relacionamento” entre Flamengo e Globo. O Fla não tem contrato com o Esporte Interativo.

“Diante disto, solicitamos que esclareçam, no prazo de cinco dias, se as transmissões do Esporte Interativo impactaram o cálculo dos valores devidos ao Flamengo na forma do Relatório de Exposição. E, caso positivo, apresentem o relatório retificado”, pediu o clube para a Globo na primeira notificação. Por último neste documento, o Rubro-Negro colocou o item “Pagamento de Despesas Relativas à Logística e Deslocamento”. O Flamengo lembrou que “de acordo com a cláusula 14 do contrato anterior referente à tv aberta e a cláusula 18 do contrato anterior referente à tv fechada”, a Globo “têm a obrigação de arcar com as despesas relativas às passagens aéreas, tarifas de embarque e excesso de bagagem, hospedagem e alimentação, necessárias ao deslocamento de até 33 membros da delegação do Flamengo em todas as partidas do campeonato”.

Foi dito pelo Flamengo que “esta obrigação contratual não está vinculada aos valores devidos pela Globo pelos direitos de transmissão, sendo uma obrigação autônoma contida nos contratos anteriores, que complementam a proposta”. O clube afirmou que a Globo não estava honrando com esta obrigação desde o início da temporada, cobrando com prazo de cinco dias, assim, até a ocasião, R$ 479.339,59 correspondente a seis jogos disputados fora de casa. De passagem, os valores por jogo variam entre R$ 48.356,00 e R$ 66.494,00, com a variação entre R$ 31.288,00 e R$ 39.895,00 sobre hospedagem e alimentação. A logística do jogo contra o CSA não foi levada em consideração. O Flamengo terminou a notificação dizendo que se a Globo não cumprisse com as questões apontadas, acarretaria a incidência das penalidades previstas na cláusula 15 dos contratos anteriores à tv aberta e tv fechada.

Leeds may already have their next Raphinha on their hands in the shape of 19-year-old starlet Crysencio Summerville.

Described as a “bag of tricks” by Chris Powell – his former coach when he was a teenager at ADO Den Haag – he scored a hat-trick against Burnley under-23s on just his second start for the Whites’ underage side earlier this season.

Then, in the under-23s’ stunning 5-0 victory over West Brom on Monday, Summerville helped Leeds run riot. While Joe Gelhardt bagged himself a hat-trick, it was arguably the Dutch winger who stole the show.

Writing in his post-match player ratings for Leeds Live, Joe Donnohue noted: “Summerville has this move where he will evade a tackle or opposition pressure by knocking the ball two yards in front or to the side, before then sidestepping the challenge – it’s almost like muscle memory now, a really smart move.

“Drew the foul well for the penalty, and linked up well with Gelhardt to assist for the second. Worked well defensively, unafraid to get stuck in as is always the case with the Dutchman. Consistency is king with him; another goal, another assist, another penalty won.”

Standing at just 5 foot 9 and with a slight frame, there may be concerns over whether the Dutchman can handle the physicality at Premier League level, but the winger himself has sought to downplay those worries.

Summerville said earlier this year: “I often hear that there are doubts because of my physical condition, but when you are on the field, you are not concerned with that. There are often big defenders in front of me, I have to be smart about that. I know I’m agile and try to play with my mind.”

Many Leeds fans have come to love a slight, skilful winger in summer signing Raphinha, who has taken to English football like a duck to water and has been an absolute revelation at Elland Road since arriving from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

In just 24 games in the top flight, he has managed six goals and provided five assists, and has had some real eye-catching moments – not least making a fool out of Crystal Palace’s Gary Cahill or his countless number of tricks and flicks to get past players and leaving them for dust.

While Gelhardt may be the name everybody’s talking about after his hat-trick, Summerville’s explosive nature and ability to beat players one on one out wide makes him the kind of game-changing player Marcelo Bielsa would surely embrace at first team level.

Given the struggles of the likes of Helder Costa and Jack Harrison in recent weeks – they have combined for just one goal and two assists in their last seven Premier League appearances – introducing Summerville into the first team picture could give Leeds another X-factor just like Raphinha has done.

Dean Windass has exclusively told Football FanCast that Jamie Vardy is suffering without James Maddison, but has still tipped Leicester to finish second.

Vardy has scored 14 goals in all competitions this season, but hasn’t found the net since Maddison suffered a hip problem against Aston Villa last month.

Leicester themselves have picked up just four points from their three Premier League games since winning at Villa Park, and were dumped out of the Europa League by Slavia Prague.

Their injury problems went from bad to worse when both Jonny Evans and Harvey Barnes were forced off against Arsenal earlier this month – with the latter expected to be ruled out for at least six weeks following knee surgery.

But Windass believes that Leicester, who lie in third just one point below Manchester United, will avoid a repeat of last season when they collapsed post-lockdown to finish fifth.

He told Football FanCast:

“We’re talking about Vardy, Maddison and Barnes. Two out of the three are injured. Yes, Iheanacho scored a wonderful goal against Burnley, but is he going to get you another six or seven goals? I’m not so sure. Maddison is a big miss for Vardy.

“I always had a midfield player or a winger that if they didn’t play, I didn’t get as many chances, and I think that Jamie Vardy will be thinking, ‘come on Maddo, get fit please, quickly’. Nine times out of ten, Vardy’s goals come from Maddison.

“But it’s a definite that they’ll get in the top-four, I actually think they’ll get in the top-two.”

Maddison and Vardy have struck up an excellent partnership since the former joined from Norwich almost three years ago, and as Windass says, the striker isn’t the same without Maddison behind him.

The pair have combined on a number occasions in recent years, and the quicker Maddison returns, the better Leicester’s chances are of finishing in the top-four.

Na entrevista coletiva após a partida contra a Ponte, ele aproveitou uma pergunta sobre outro assunto para externar sua opinião. Ao ser questionado sobre Balbuena, que chegou do Paraguai pela manhã e atuou de noite, ele disparou:

-Não adianta logística (para um jogador estar em campo) se não botar alma. Não estou dizendo para ser babão ou puxa-saco. Estou falando de quando os erros acontecem, vai lá dentro e resolve, não vai dar informação para a imprensa. Tá insatisfeito? Fala com o técnico, resolve ali dentro, são situações que fazem consolidar estrutura. Vocês (jornalistas) têm fontes em tudo que é lugar, errado é quem passa isso para vocês – comentou.
