Trevor Bayliss intends to quit as the coach of Sri Lanka after next year’s World Cup, having spent three years in the role. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Bayliss, the former New South Wales coach, was keen to spend more time with his wife and teenage children, who still live in Sydney.”I’m on the lookout [for a new job],” Bayliss told the paper. He is in Sydney with the Sri Lankans ahead of their limited-overs series against Australia, which begins with a Twenty20 in Perth on Sunday followed by three one-day internationals. The matches are part of Sri Lanka’s preparations for the World Cup, which they will host in conjunction with India and Bangladesh starting next February. Last time the tournament was held in the subcontinent Sri Lanka emerged triumphant, and Bayliss is optimistic of their hopes in 2011.”They’ve got a good chance in this World Cup coming up, and I’m looking forward to it very much,” Bayliss said. In his time as Sri Lanka’s coach, Bayliss has helped the team win 11 out of 25 Tests and 41 of 78 ODIs, and they now sit third in the ICC Test rankings and fourth in the one-day international list.A former batsman who played 58 first-class matches for New South Wales, Bayliss took on the role as the state’s coach in 2004-05. He was chosen to replace Tom Moody at the helm of the Sri Lankan side in August 2007.

Ryan Watson Moneeb Iqbal are unavailable due to work commitments while Ewan Chalmers will be writing his university examinations.Scotland’s previous Intercontinental Cup fixture was against Ireland in August, when they played out a draw, before earning a walkover against Zimbabwe XI. From Italy: Striker attracted to West Ham

As per Torino Granata, a possible boost for West Ham United has come to light amid their links to Torino striker and soon-to-be free agent Andrea Belotti.

The Lowdown: Pellegrini fails in 2019 bid…

Multiple reports from 2019 have backed that the Hammers and former boss Manuel Pellegrini lodged a bid to sign the Italy international, but to no avail.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-newest-updates/” title=”West Ham newest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Football Insider, Calciomercato and TUTTOmercatoWEB all claimed that West Ham made an offer for Belotti nearly three years ago with the striker coming as a name who will be familiar to supporters.

Out of contract this summer, it appears the 28-year-old will finally be on the way out of Turin and for free, gifting David Moyes and co a chance to solve their striker shortage with a long-term target.

The Latest: Belotti open to joining…

Torino Granata, sharing the latest on his future post-Torino, now claim that Belotti is open to joining West Ham this summer.

Indeed, according to their sources, a Premier League move for the forward cannot be ruled out.

It is believed that a move to the Irons or fellow interested side Newcastle ‘could be more attractive’ to Belotti.

The Verdict: Make the move…

An proven threat at both international and club level, bypassing Belotti’s estimated £25.2 million Transfermarkt valuation and snapping him up for nothing would be a very shrewd move.

Torino’s captain and figurehead is one of the Serie A big names set to make a headline-grabbing move this summer and we believe a transfer to West Ham may well be on the cards.

However, with Newcastle, Roma, Atalanta, Inter Milan and Toronto also on his trail, Moyes and co should waste no time making the striker an offer.

Under-pressure Clarke faces confident India

Cricinfo looks ahead to the three-match ODI series between India and Australia

The Preview by Sriram Veera16-Oct-2010Match FactsSunday, October 17, Kochi
Start time 9:00 am (0330 GMT)Michael Clarke had a poor Test series. Will the ODIs bring a change in his fortunes?•Getty Images

The Big PictureMichael Clarke will lead Australia in the ODIs, and he’ll feel the pressure. There has been an intense debate in Australia about the future, including captaincy. There appear to be three camps: Ponting loyalists, Clarke aficionados and the anyone-but-Clarke club. The third should worry Clarke. His poor performance in the Tests this tour has added more fuel to critics who believe Clarke rarely performs when the team needs it. Australian captains have been tough; Clarke is seen as a bit of a show pony by his critics. This three-match series will give him another opportunity to silence them.In India, there is no such debate. There are those who put MS Dhoni’s success down to luck but they haven’t reached a critical mass. And even they can’t put forward an alternative name for captain. Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar put it thus: “Dhoni is a guy who does things that are supposed to be done and leaves the rest to fate. He doesn’t try to control everything. That is his greatest strength.”The series will be a contest between two men – one itching to prove that he is the man for the future, and one whose future in the pantheon of successful Indian captains is already secure. If only the weather allows them. Australia haven’t been able to practice in Kochi, the venue of the first ODI. Their players, during this time, have been tweeting about spending their time in the gym and wishing the rain would stop.Form guide (most recent first)

Watch out for…Just when Callum Ferguson was establishing himself in the ODI line-up and looking ahead to securing a place in the Tests, he twisted his knee in the Champions Trophy final and had to sit out for a while. The Champions League, the Twenty20 tournament in South Africa, was his comeback and he starred with two half-centuries, finishing fifth on the tournament run tally. The best thing going for him is that there seems to be almost no one in Australia who doesn’t rate him highly. This ODI series should help him kick-start his ambitions and others’ hopes.R Ashwin’s time has surely come. A stable head, calm temperament and rapidly developing skill-set puts him right up there in the reckoning for a spot in the playing XI. The all-round development has been visible: He developed a carrom ball and has now honed it to perfection, he uses the crease more intelligently and has already developed a reputation of bowling in the Powerplays. His development hasn’t gone unnoticed. “He is used to bowling in the Powerplays. He is an aggressive bowler, he has the variety and he is always ready to bowl whenever you throw the ball to him,” Dhoni said at the end of the Champions League. “He wants to perform; he has grown as a player over the last three IPLs.”Team newsShikhar Dhawan, the only surprise call-up in the Indian squad for the series, is likely to make his ODI debut.India (probable): 1 M Vijay, 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Virat Kohli/Rohit Sharma, 6 MS Dhoni (capt and wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Praveen Kumar, 10 Ashish Nehra, 11 Munaf Patel.Doug Bollinger is the senior-most fast bowler in the squad but is yet to fully recover from the abdominal strain that ruled him out of the Bangalore Test. He hasn’t bowled since picking up the injury and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit for Sunday’s match. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc could make his debut in case Bollinger misses out.Australia (probable) 1 David Warner, 2 Tim Paine (wk), 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 Shaun Marsh/Callum Ferguson, 5 Michael Hussey, 6 Cameron White, 7 Steve Smith, 8 James Hopes, 9 Nathan Hauritz, 10 Clint McKay, 11 Doug Bollinger/Mitchell Starc.Pitch and conditionsThe unrelenting rain has put the first ODI under threat. We have to wait and watch whether it will clear up in time to allow some play. The consistent rain has affected the pitch preparations and it will be interesting to see how it plays.Stats and trivia India have a poor record of chasing against Australia: They have lost 34 games and won only 17 while batting second against them. MS Dhoni has 225 ODI dismissals as a wicketkeeper and stands sixth in the all-time list. He needs nine more dismissals to go past Ian Healy. Clarke averages 43.03 in ODIs but it dips against India: he averages 37.83 and has scored one hundred from 25 games against India. He averages 33.88 against the Indians in Australia while it jumps marginally to 38.57 in Indian conditions.Quotes”Boys are just looking at some video footage of the Indian players.”

“We need this rain to stop asap … I am very frustrated.”

Marillier century halts Rhinos' push for victory

Opener Steve Marillier’s marathon, unbeaten century halted Mid West Rhinos’ charge towards an innings victory and helped Southern Rocks draw their second game of the Logan Cup in Masvingo

Opener Steve Marillier’s marathon, unbeaten century halted Mid West Rhinos’ charge towards an innings victory and helped Southern Rocks draw their second game of the Logan Cup in Masvingo.Following on after conceding a 322-run first-innings lead, Rocks were left with the task of batting out four sessions to save the game. But for Marillier’s effort, they would have struggled to do so. After his partner Sikandar Raza was dismissed with the score on zero, Marillier – playing only his eighth first-class game – faced 380 deliveries and remained not out on 148, his maiden century. The next highest score was Craig Ervine’s 46. The match was called off with Rocks on 282 for 5 after 119 overs. The Rhinos’ commanding position in the game was built by first-innings hundreds from Brendan Taylor, their captain Vusi Sibanda and Malcolm Waller. They piled up 609 for 7 after getting sent in by Rocks. An opening stand of 180 between Taylor and Friday Kasteni, who made 61, set the tone for the middle order to build the huge total. In reply, half-centuries from Tatenda Taibu and Raza could not help Rocks avoid the follow-on. Legspinner Graeme Cremer picked up his 12th five-wicket haul in 61 first-class games to dismiss Rocks for 287. Sibanda immediately enforced the follow-on, but Marillier’s effort meant Rhinos had to be content with earning only one point for the first-innings lead from the game.

Jones: Everton must make Burnley rue defeat

Adam Jones has claimed that Everton must now make Burnley ‘regret’ their 2-0 loss at Norwich City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Great results for Everton

After the Merseyside club beat Manchester United 1-0 at Goodison Park in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, other results at the bottom of the table also went their way over the weekend.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Watford lost 3-0 at home to Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, while Burnley then went and lost to Norwich. It means that Frank Lampard’s team are now four points clear of the relegation zone with just eight matches left to play.

The Latest: Jones reacts to Premier League results

Taking to Twitter, Liverpool Echo journalist Jones has now given his reaction to the results, claiming that the Clarets dropping off after beating Everton 3-2 in midweek was a ‘real let off’ for Frank Lampard’s side.

He chimed: “Well that is quite the weekend of results for Everton. In some ways, it’s a real let off.

“Burnley really dropped the ball after what seemed like a defining victory in midweek. Everton need to make them absolutely regret that over their next few games, whatever it takes.”

The Verdict: Not over yet

The race to secure Premier League safety is certainly not over yet, but of course the weekend’s results provide a huge step in the right direction for the Toffees.

Some of their next few fixtures look particularly daunting, with a trip to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby followed by a home match against Chelsea to come.

There could be plenty of twists and turns along the way, but Lampard will be hoping that Everton’s win against the Red Devils can install some much-needed confidence in his team, ready for the rollercoaster ahead.
