Inédito! Brasil terá time homossexual de futebol no World Gay Games

O time brasileiro é primeiro time homossexual reconhecidamente do Rio de Janeiro.

Outro lado

We give up our wickets easily – Law

Stuart Law, the Bangladesh coach, has said it was disappointing that his batsmen were getting themselves out, instead of making Pakistan toil for wickets

Stuart Law, the Bangladesh coach, has said it was disappointing that his batsmen were getting themselves out, instead of making Pakistan toil for wickets, and that it was a frequently recurring problem. Bangladesh were dismissed for 135 on the first day of the Chittagong Test because several of their batsmen played rash shots.”We are not making Pakistan get us out, we are just giving up our wickets easily. It’s happening over and over again, that is disappointing for anybody,” Law said. “It’s not through lack of talk, not through lack of practice. I can’t really explain it.”Bangladesh had good batting conditions as well, after Misbah-ul-Haq made the surprising decision to bowl after winning the toss. They were all out inside two sessions, though. Of the top six batsmen only the debutant opener, Nazimuddin, went past 10. He was involved in the highest partnership of the innings – 24 for the seventh wicket with Mahmudullah. Bangladesh got past 100 only because of Nasir Hossain’s 41 at No. 8.”The conditions were ideal for batting. The wicket may have been a little slow, but if you prepare for bat a long time, you got it easy and easier,” Law said. “It looks like a pretty good batting wicket as well. It was probably a little bit of a gamble by Misbah, very well calculated and credit to Pakistan, they picked up the wickets they needed at a regular intervals.”Two bright points, Nazimuddin, on debut, I think he looked very good. He looked very comfortable. And once again Nasir Hossain continued to score runs. He has put his hand up to probably go up the order at some stage.”Law said the key was to bat carefully at the start because the pitch eased out after the tea break. The Pakistan openers virtually wiped out Bangladesh’s total during their partnership. Mohammad Hafeez and Taufeeq Umar added 132.”We have very talented cricketers, we just have got a mental block somewhere,” Law said. “We tried to talk about the longer we bat, the easier it gets. After tea today it was one of the nicest batting wickets.”

Mohsin lauds Cheema's debut effort

Mohsin Khan, Pakistan’s chief selector, has praised fast bowler Aizaz Cheema’s performance in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe

Mohsin Khan: “I watched each of his [Cheema’s] deliveries and he impressed me with his fitness and commitment”•AFP

Mohsin Khan, Pakistan’s chief selector, has praised fast bowler Aizaz Cheema’s performance in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe and said it justified the selection committee’s decision to use the tour as an opportunity to blood uncapped but promising players. Cheema finished with match figures of 8 for 103, the second best by a Pakistan debutant.”This tour was the best opportunity for youngsters and they justified our decision, especially Cheema,” Mohsin told the . “I watched each of his deliveries and he impressed me with his fitness and commitment.”I won’t rate the win as a huge achievement. The win wasn’t against a top-class team but we have achieved our target of finding a fast bowler who can support the other pacers.”Pakistan rested their first-choice fast bowlers Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz for the Zimbabwe tour and opted for a new-look pace attack that included Sohail Tanvir, Sohail Khan, Cheema and Junaid Khan. Cheema, Khan and Junaid played the Test and picked up ten Zimbabwe wickets among them.”According to our plan, we are giving chances to new players and Cheema with his performance has proved he will be a useful prospect for Pakistan in future,” Mohsin told the . “He bowled with a great heart on a dead pitch. Sohail still has time to prove himself.”The selectors were criticised for the experimental nature of the squad but Mohsin said he was “not afraid of taking these chances for the betterment of Pakistan cricket” and that he had the “full support from the PCB.””I am here to prepare a strong team with a strong back-up for which you have to take calculative risky steps,” he said.Four Pakistan batsmen got past fifty in the Test, though only Mohammad Hafeez went on to get a hundred. Mohsin said Pakistan needed to guard against complacency in the upcoming limited-overs series. “Zimbabwe will be tough in that format and the team should not take the hosts lightly.”Pakistan and Zimbabwe next play three one-day games and two Twenty20s. The first ODI will be played in Bulawayo on September 8.

West Indies board confirms $20m WIPA lawsuit

A High Court judge has reportedly given the West Indies Cricket Board six weeks to respond to a US$20 million lawsuit filed by the West Indies Players’ Association

ESPNcricinfo staff28-Aug-2011

Chris Gayle was given an NOC by the WICB to play in the 2011 IPL and he led Royal Challengers Bangalore to the final•AFP

The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has filed a US$20 million lawsuit against the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and a High Court judge has reportedly given the board six weeks to respond. The WICB had earlier confirmed it had received documents relating to the lawsuit filed by WIPA that “related to the issuance of no objection certificates (issued to players by WICB) which require players to fulfil international duties for the West Indies team if selected”.According to a report by and , Justice David Harris of the Trinidad and Tobago High Court, who presided over the filing of the claim last week, has also told the region’s cricket administrators that they will have 16 days to appear before the court. The claim comes on the back of a bitter and protracted dispute between WIPA and WICB over player rights and pay. The two bodies are currently in the middle of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement and memorandum of understanding in an attempt to resolve their differences but the suit is bound to complicate that process. There has been no public statement from WIPA but in the 46-page motion filed before the court, the association stated that the WICB “has engaged in a malicious, wanton and wilful campaign to breach the express and implied terms of the collective bargaining agreements as well as impose unlawful and unreasonable restraints of trade on West Indian cricketers”.At the heart of the case are allegations by WIPA that the board has refused ‘to grant an unconditional NOC to players who have no contractual obligations to the WICB or any teams under its jurisdiction’. According to WIPA, such actions constitute “an unreasonable restraint of trade” since they prevent the “players from freely plying their trade as free agents.”Under the current system, players require a no objection certificate (NOC) from their member boards to participate in domestic tournaments in other countries such as the IPL in India and the Friends Life t20 in England. In the case of West Indies, some of their most prominent players – Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo – have all managed to forge remunerative careers in domestic Twenty20 leagues over the last few years. Last September, the trio turned down the West Indies board’s central contracts, which require the players to make themselves available for the West Indies team at all times. The WICB had then talked about tightening the rules for providing NOCs, but so far have never refused to grant a player one, giving all three players permission to play in the 2011 IPL.However, WIPA argued in its suit that the WICB’s decision not to issue unconditional NOCs to those players who are not contracted to the board has resulted in the players not being “compensated for the damages they have suffered and continue to suffer” and that “WICB’s actions are designed solely to exploit and profit from players and various members of WIPA to their detriment” (WIPA claims that it represents at least 300 cricketers with no more than 25 players signing retainer contracts with the WICB at any one time).WIPA asserts that the WICB’s conduct is so egregious “that while the WICB purports to act on the player’s behalf without their authority, and despite the existence of gross conflicts of interests, the WICB profits from the players’ plight by being paid a sum equivalent to 10 per cent of the player’s salaries earned by the players participating in overseas matches – all while causing millions of dollars in damages to WIPA and its members.”The players’ association claimed that WICB has refused to resolve these issues and has therefore forced WIPA to take legal action. “Simply put, the WICB cannot justify its intentional and malicious conduct and must be stopped to prevent further damage to WIPA, West Indian cricketers and West Indies cricket on the whole.”WIPA wants the High Court to redress the situation by declaring the WICB’s position on unconditional NOCs to be “oppressive, illegal, contrary to public policy and constituting an unlawful restraint of trade” and to compel the WICB to issue “unconditional NOCs to players not retained or contracted by the WICB when requested’.Further, the players’ body is seeking “not less than” $10 million in actual damages to “compensate WIPA and its members for the WICB’s breaches of the Agreements and Member Contracts as well as for lost earnings to individual players and a further $10 million in actual and exemplary damages to compensate WIPA and its members for the WICB’s wilful and malicious actions”.The WICB said its legal team was studying the documents and a further statement will be made at the appropriate time.

Bad light denies India and New Zealand victories

A round-up of the action from the third day of the first round of three-day matches in the Emerging Players Tournament

ESPNcricinfo staff03-Aug-2011

India Emerging Players had to settle for a draw against South Africa Emerging Players due to bad light ending play at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane when they were four runs away from victory with four wickets in hand. It was an anti-climactic end to a spirited chase as Ajinkya Rahane’s 109 off 122 balls and Ambati Rayudu’s unbeaten half-century led them to 278 for 6 in 55.1 overs, at which point the umpires decided light was too poor to carry on. Neither team was awarded points after the stalemate, though South Africa copped a penalty of five points for a poor over-rate that left them five overs short of the target, potentially costing India the game. That India had a shot at victory was down to a sporting declaration from the South Africans earlier in the day. Resuming at their overnight score of 122 for 1, South Africa piled on the runs thanks to opener Reeza Hendricks and captain Stiaan van Zyl, both of whom made tons. van Zyl was the more adventurous, making his runs at a strike-rate of 78.52. Hendricks remained unbeaten on 125 when the declaration came at 291 for 3, setting India 282 to win.Opener S Anirudha failed for the second time in the match, but captain Shikhar Dhawan stroked a quick 36 to launch the chase. The Tiwarys, Manoj and Saurabh, then supported Rahane as India made steady progress, before Rayudu opened up. Rahane and CM Gautam were dismissed off successive balls, but Iqbal Abdulla, in Rayudu’s company, ensured the chase remained on track, before light faded. The events at the Peter Burge Oval had a striking similarity to the ones that unfolded at the Allan Border Field. Light once again played spoilsport, with New Zealand A ten short of the target of 353 set by Australian Institute of Sport, with three wickets remaining.Resuming at 180 for 3, AIS motored along to add 208 runs in 32.5 overs on the final day. Alex Keath scored a century while Glenn Maxwell was dismissed ten short, before Tom Beaton struck 79 off only 58 balls to set up the declaration at 388 for 8. That meant New Zealand A needed 353, a target they pursued with purpose thanks to BJ Watling’s 139. While Watling took his time, his partners went after the bowling, with Daniel Flynn and Dean Brownlie making 38 and 41 respectively at better than run-a-ball. Luke Woodcock, coming in at No. 6, slammed 52 off 32 balls as New Zealand raised their scoring-rate, and even the loss of three quick wickets for the addition of 19 runs – including Watling and Woodcock – did not hamper the pace. However, the elements once again had the final say, and this time New Zealand A had only themselves to blame – they were slapped a penalty of two points for being two overs short.

Ratnayake named SL interim coach

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Rumesh Ratnayake has been appointed as the interim coach for the home series against Australia starting next month

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler will be giving up his duties at the ACC to become the interim coach of the Sri Lankan team•HKCA

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Rumesh Ratnayake has been appointed as the interim Sri Lanka coach for the home series against Australia that begins next month.”We have appointed Rumesh Ratnayake only for the Australian tour because there is hardly any time to look for another coach,” Upali Dharmadasa, Sri Lanka Cricket’s interim committee chairman, said.Former Australia batsman Stuart Law, who was appointed the interim coach for Sri Lanka’s tour of England, after Trevor Bayliss relinquished the post after the World Cup, stepped down at the conclusion of the England tour.Ratnayake, 47, who has played 23 Tests and 70 ODIs for Sri Lanka is presently a development officer with the Asian Cricket Council. “We had to get permission from the Asian Cricket Council president Ashraful Haq to have Rumesh released for the series,” Dharmadas said.Ratnayake, who picked up nine wickets in Sri Lanka’s maiden Test victory in the second Test against India in Colombo in 1985, had signed a four-year contract to be Sri Lanka’s assistant coach in 2007, but withdrew citing family commitments.Dharmadasa said that the hunt for a new national coach would begin within the next three months. “We will call for fresh applicants for the post by advertising on the ICC and SLC websites and also in the national newspapers,” he said, adding that candidates who had shown interest in the job after Bayliss stepped down would have to make fresh applications if they are to be considered.Australia are scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and two Twenty20 Internationals in Sri Lanka, with the first T20 game to be played on August 6 in Pallekele. Dinesh Chandimal and Dhammika Prasad, who impressed on the limited-over leg of the tour of England and Scotland, will be part of the mix for the Australia series after they have been withdrawn from the Sri Lanka A squad that is due to tour England in July and August. Kanishka Alvitigala and Kushal Janith are their replacements in the Sri Lanka A squad.
